And of-course, this is all done together in the same 3D model to check for clearances, process-flow, etc.ĢD plan and section drawings are made by making slices in the 3D model to do our layouts and detailing. ![]() We in the electrical department also use PDS for overhead and underground raceways (cable-trays, conduits, bus-ducts, etc.,) as well as other items. As you can imagine, I work a lot with other disciplines who uses 3D modelling (Intergragh PDS in my case) for architectural, civil, structural, process, mechanical (HVAC, refrigeration, etc.,).the works. I first worked with AutoCAD (2D mostly, but I can use 3D as well) and then with Microstation (which I don't like much) when I switched jobs. Just to give you guys some background on myself: I'm a junior electrical power systems engineer in the consulting and design of all kinds of projects including residential, commercial/institutional, and industrial/process/mining sectors. With that said, though, I hope Open CASCADE continues to be the engine of choice for FreeCAD. While I would be disappointed by any inevitable setback caused by replacing Open CASCADE with another CAD engine, I would support that decision, because I would understand the rationale behind it. I came across this project, and I'm really excited about its prospects as a truly open-source, cross-platform 3D CAD alternative to the proprietary offerings. ![]()
